CrestClean at FLAsia Expo in Singapore

During November CrestClean attended the Franchising & Licensing Asia 2012 expo in Singapore. This is Asia’s most international franchising and licensing trade exhibition which convenes a myriad of top international franchises, brands, licenses, and proven business concepts from diverse industries.

CrestClean had a prominent stand located within the Singapore Pavilion. There were more than 217 brands on offer and more than 9000 visitors over 3 days. Quite a big show. We spoke with people from all around Asia, India and the subcontinent, the Middle East and even one delegate from Ghana in Africa.

The NZ Trade Commissioner to Singapore came down and liked our stand and our unique “silver fern” logo. The commissioner welcomed our participation and that of the other Kiwi companies.

Two other Kiwi franchise brands were also exhibiting. There were SNOREPRO, which markets a device to prevent snoring and has been helping New Zealanders to sleep soundly for the last 25 years; and Safe Kids In Daily Supervision (sKids) with ‘before and after school care and holiday programmes’. Both are New Zealand originated franchise systems that have master franchises established in other countries.

CrestClean was runner up in the “International Franchise of the Year” at the Franchise and Licensing Association of Singapore Awards gala Dinner.

Grant also spoke at the Franchise Executives Conference, which was part of the expo. This international conference and workshop catered round the theme of “Spotting Gold in the Asian Franchise Market”. Case studies were presented detailing how many successful brands had propagated across Asia.

We had a really enjoyable experience at the FLAsia expo in Singapore, with great interactions with potential prospects for CrestClean Asia. We are now in discussions with potential master franchises from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Pakistan, and Mumbai in India.

The last photo with the gentleman in the suit records our introduction and conversation with the Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Mr Lee Yi Shyan, from the Singapore Government who looks after a far more productive and business friendly country than NZ is! The Singaporean Government has many positive programs and subsidies to attract business to Singapore, and then to assist them to export from Singapore.

Article from “Singapore Business Times” 2 November 2012

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and other companies can look towards franchising as a strategy to improve business productivity, said Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Lee Yi Shyan, at the opening ceremony of Franchising & Licensing Asia (FLAsia) 2012 yesterday. The franchising industry accounted for 18 per cent of the total domestic retail sales volume in 2011 and has an annual turnover of more than $6 billion.

Thus, “franchising could help SMEs enter into a virtuous cycle of profitable growth and rising organisational capability”, said Mr Lee.

FLAsia 2012 has brought together 217 exhibitors – 101 local companies and 116 internal brands. Some 8,000 to 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the three-day exhibition which started yesterday. “Clearly, the interest in the exhibition is growing and the interest comes from all across the world. I think it is a good reflection of the growth opportunity that this show can bring,” said Mr Lee. Participants this year include exhibitors from Japan, Taiwan, Italy and Thailand and New Zealand among others.
