When CrestClean’s Karthik Naidu decided to treat a school to ice cream he was following a family tradition of making a birthday a time to focus on others.

He got a big thumbs up from children and staff at Moturoa School when he arrived with large box of ice cream to celebrate turning 28.

The CrestClean business owner, who is originally from Fiji, says he remembers as a young boy his father encouraging him to be generous. “It’s something my dad taught me to give something to others when it’s your birthday,” he says. In Fiji it was often helping people who were less fortunate, he recalls.

Karthik says he was overwhelmed by the feedback from the New Plymouth children. “The kids all loved it and left me a nice note. It made me feel good.”

He and his wife Jashma bought their CrestClean business in March. They particularly like looking after Moturoa School.

“It’s an awesome school to work at and we really enjoy being there. The teaching staff are great,” says Karthik.

The school’s principal Hamish Hislop says the sweet treat was much appreciated. “He shouted the whole school ice cream, which is pretty nice!”

The quality of the cleaning and the couple’s attitude has not gone unnoticed, Hamish says. “We are thrilled with Karthik and his wife, they are doing a great job.

“The thing I really like about them is they have really good communications with me as the principal. Anything I notice that needs to be done is done promptly.

“They are friendly with all the staff and easily approachable. They are hard workers. All the CrestClean cleaners we have had have been hard workers. We are thrilled with the job they do.”

Karthik has recently given up his fulltime production job at Tegal Foods. He now plans to concentrate on expanding their CrestClean business. Jashma still works part time as a care assistant.

CrestClean’s Taranaki Regional Manager Naresh Mani says the couple have got off to a great start with their franchise. “They are doing a very good job and their customers are very happy.

“They are good communicators and have a very good attention to detail and the quality of their cleaning is very high.”
