A group of experienced Auckland franchisees recently got together for a carpet cleaning refresher course with Master Cleaners Training Institute (MCTI) trainer Mohammed Ashad. With over 50 years of combined experience between them, it was the perfect chance to brush up on their skills, learn a few new tricks, and stay up to date with the latest techniques.
Among the group was Kamal Jeet, who has been a proud CrestClean franchisee for almost 23 years. His carpet cleaning journey began back in 2005, when things looked quite different to how they do today. Spotting a growing demand from his customers, Kamal decided to invest in his own “mighty” carpet cleaning machine and set out to learn the ropes himself.
Since then, his expertise has only grown, with customers even asking him to take over from previous cleaners they weren’t satisfied with.
In 2013 when Kamal visited friends in Melbourne, he saw some modern carpet cleaning machines in action. He liked them so much he purchased three and gave one to his good friend and fellow Auckland franchisee, Resham Singh.
“I fell in love with those machines,” he laughs.
Fast forward to 2025, and carpet cleaning continues to evolve. This recent refresher course was a chance for franchisees to stay on top of the latest techniques, technologies, and chemical treatments. It also covered the importance of recognising different carpet types and stains to make sure they choose the right cleaning approach.
“Things are getting more advanced. The training refreshes our mind – some things we had forgotten about and, of course, some new things came up,” says Kamal.
“We learned the smart way of doing things.”
While carpet cleaning isn’t part of Kamal’s everyday routine, being able to offer it as an extra service has played a big role in growing his business. Customers ask for carpet cleans every now and then, especially around Christmas, when offices are winding down and getting ready for a fresh start in the new year. And when they do, Kamal is always ready to go.
“Our customers are closed at that time, but we are busy!” Kamal laughs.
Reflecting on how far he’s come since starting his CrestClean journey, Kamal says he’s grateful for everything the business has made possible for him and his family since moving to New Zealand from Fiji.
“CrestClean is the best company. That’s why I have been here for 23 years,” he says.
“We came here with nothing and now we have everything. We are just so thankful to have a successful business with CrestClean.”
