Te Puke Primary School pupils will be given an opportunity most take for granted once a proposed bike and scooter track is built, thanks to funds raised at a golf tournament.
Businesses, including CrestClean Tauranga, sponsored the 18-hole golf tournament that was held at Te Puke Golf Club on November 8. As well as sponsoring a hole, Crest also donated four $50 cleaning vouchers as spot prizes.
All proceeds will go towards funding the bike and scooter track and will cover the purchase of 50 bikes and helmets that will be used by pupils to learn how to ride and be safe on a bike.
Once pupils complete their bike wise course, they will be given a ‘license’ to ride.
“The kids will be given lessons and they will learn about bike safety which is really important,” Tauranga Regional Manager Jan Lichtwark says. “Some kids don’t have a bike and some don’t know how to ride a bike. I think it is a fantastic idea and I am so pleased that we were able to support this tournament.”
