It was a proud day in Hawke’s Bay as the much-anticipated Kaweka Specialist Centre & Ward officially opened its doors on 13 July, marking a major milestone not only for the region, but for healthcare in New Zealand.

CrestClean has proudly looked after Kaweka Hospital’s first stage since it opened in 2022, so it was a special moment for our Hawke’s Bay team to attend the grand opening. There to celebrate were Regional Manager Tim O’Leary, Quality Assurance Co-ordinator Charlize Pederson, and franchisee Sidney Fesau who’s part of the hospital’s cleaning team. Our General Manager of Training Liezl Foxcroft also drove down from Auckland to join them for the big occasion.

“It was amazing to be a part of something so long awaited in the region – five years in the making,” says Liezl.

The grand opening of the three-storey main facility was made even more special as the weather held off just long enough for the sun to make a welcome appearance. Staff, founders, board members and guests all gathered to celebrate the completion of a project that’s been described as a true labour of love.

From concept to completion, the Kaweka Specialist Centre has taken five years and the contributions of countless people to bring to life. Now complete, it becomes the first base-isolated building in Hawke’s Bay, offering advanced protection in the event of an earthquake. It’s also the first newly built hospital in the region in nearly 100 years.

The state-of-the-art hospital includes:

  • 31 patient rooms, including four ICU rooms
  • Five surgical theatres
  • A catheterisation lab
  • Radiology services
  • Consultation and conference rooms
  • An onsite pharmacy
  • A public café (opening soon!)

The new facility sits directly across the road from the Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and just a short distance from Royston Hospital – the region’s only other private hospital, which is also proudly serviced by CrestClean.

With its expanded services, Kaweka Hospital is set to provide world-class healthcare to the region for generations to come.
