When it comes to keeping the workplace clean and hygienic, you could say that Kamal Jeet Singh is RFD Limited’s lifejacket!
The CrestClean franchisee has been providing a cleaning service to the Auckland marine safety equipment firm for almost 21 years, and they have no plans to change cleaners any time soon.
“His work is very good. He’s always super nice, very friendly and polite. And during the holidays every year the carpet is cleaned and the floors are polished to a high gloss — you can you really notice,” says Tanya Eyre, who looks after RFD’s purchasing.
But Kamal’s long association with the company goes back even further — he worked there before starting his CrestClean business.
“He was in our lifejacket department, assembling them. I was the receptionist at the time and my husband worked for us back then too, he was Fijian so he and Kamal had plenty to talk about,” recalls Tanya.
“When Kamal started his own business, he replaced our previous cleaner because we knew he was a good worker and we knew we could trust him.”
RFD, which is part of the Survitec Group, has since moved its operations from Ponsonby to Mount Wellington, and of course Kamal moved with them.
Tanya says she regularly gets calls from other cleaning companies but she isn’t even interested in getting a quote from them.
“When you’ve got a business like this, people ring you all the time to offer their services for cleaning, but we tell them we’re happy with who we’ve got. If someone’s doing a good job, why would you change?”
Kamal is CrestClean’s longest-standing Auckland franchisee, and one of the region’s most successful.
Previously a bus conductor in Fiji, Kamal arrived in New Zealand with just $50 in his pocket, and now he owns a business with a turnover of more than $400,000.
