Being tidy is not normally a priority for most school kids who have plenty of other things to occupy their young minds.
But at Ashburton Borough School there’s been a ground shift in attitude by Year 7 and 8 students – and it’s all due to CrestClean’s Cleanest Classroom Award.
Robert Glenie, CrestClean’s South Canterbury Regional Manager, says Crest business owner Krishna Kumar has done a sterling job running the competition.
The competition is run at many of the 430 schools that are cleaned by CrestClean business owners. The classroom that is kept the cleanest in the school is rewarded with a certificate and pizza at the end of term.
And it’s made a huge difference, says Rob. “Normally senior classes are the hardest to clean but not at Ashburton Borough School.
“This year teacher Michael Davey has asked the students to take responsibly to keeping their room tidy and the kids have all jumped on board and worked really hard at clearing up after themselves.”
Krishna says the winning kids in Room 11 leave their classroom tidy at the end of the school day.
“They pick up the rubbish from the floor so we don’t have to bend down and spend time and effort clearing the floor before we start the vacuuming.
“It is really great that the kids and the teachers are making sure the floor is tidy.”
Krishna and his partner Deedee Nackei enjoy being franchise owners and are looking to expand their business.
They like the “laid back” lifestyle of South Canterbury. People here are nice friendly and everyone is just a bit more relaxed than other areas of New Zealand,” he says.
