Rain fails to put a dampener on festivities for South Canterbury franchisees

These South Canterbury franchisees didn’t let the rain stop them from enjoying a Christmas feast together.

A wet December has resulted in the cancellation of festive events across the country but a few hardy South Canterbury franchisees weren’t going to let their annual Christmas party be a washout.

Despite it being a grey, drizzly day, around 20 franchisees and their families braved the summer showers to enjoy a shared lunch at the beach.

South Canterbury Regional Master Franchisee Rob Glenie says the number would have been much higher if the weather had been nice. Because he doesn’t want anyone to miss out, he’s going to do a ‘re-run’ of the event in February.

“We were driving down in the beautiful sunshine and as we got closer to Timaru we could see the weather closing in. We got about 10 minutes of sunshine and then it started to rain,” says Rob.

“Unbeknown to me, the Filipino teams organised to bring food, so we had masses of food but not masses of people! I had organised a barbecue, but when they said there was a pig coming, there wasn’t much point in lighting the barbecue. We used all the buns and salad I’d prepared, and I put the barbecue meat in the freezer for when the weather is better.

“A lot of franchisees have children so they didn’t want to come out in the cold and the wet. In February the weather will hopefully be a lot more stable, so we’ll try again then. Last year’s Christmas party was cancelled due to Covid restrictions, so everyone’s really looking forward to getting together in the new year.”
