Everyone wanted to shine when it came to who could do the best job cleaning windows.
And with their efforts being crystal clear to onlookers, it was no wonder things got a bit competitive during a training course for these Rotorua and Taupo franchisees.
Overseeing everything was Joe Singh, a Master Cleaners Training Institute trainer for franchisees working towards their Certificate in Commercial Cleaning.
The Module 1 course covers a multitude of skills that CrestClean’s business owners have to master and demonstrate competency in as part of their ongoing training and upskilling.
They were in very capable hands as Joe is one of CrestClean’s most experienced operators when it comes to windows.
“I’m lucky that I’ve attended many courses with the Master Cleaners Training Institute,” says Joe.
“It’s rewarding to pass on this knowledge knowing everyone will be capable of doing a great job cleaning windows.”
Although it might look straightforward, window cleaning involves a tried and trusted method if success is to be assured, he says.
“Windows can be one of those things that if you don’t do it right you can actually end up make them looking worse with streak marks.”
The training event was held at Rotorua Race course. With some large expanses of glass, it was an ideal location to learn the basics of window cleaning.
“The windows are decent size and it really helped us demonstrate what’s needed to get our personnel to the required level of competency.”
Joe, who is based in Rotorua, spends a lot of his time cleaning windows in the city. He’s a skilled Pure Water Window Cleaning operator.
The technique uses a high-tech water filtration, which removes all solids from water, allowing only pure water to clean windows…without spotting or streaking.
“The result you bring to the window can be amazing,” says Joe, who gets a lot of job satisfaction from his work. “I love window cleaning. I’ve done so much of it but it’s always rewarding.”
Joe’s top tips on how to clean windows:
- Avoid cleaning windows in direct sunlight.
- Start from the corners and edges.
- Dust them first and remove all the cobwebs and dirt
- Damp wipe all the corners and edges
- Apply the cleaning product to the windows
- Remove any sticky marks while the glass is wet to avoid scratches
- Use a blade or squeegee over the glass to achieve a streak-free finish
- Any residual spots or drips of water can be flicked off with a cloth
